Family Therapy

Home is complicated. Families have a vision of how to achieve belonging but all too often challenges that could be opportunities of collaboration become competitions.

I believe in the magic of holding space for all family members with reverence and respect. I create a collaborative space with humor, compassion, and integrity where each members' experience is validated and calculated into the entirety of the family's patterns.

I use narrative, contextual, experiential and feminist family therapy modalities to unpack how intergenerational patterns are being embodied in the present situation. Things left undone in previous generations become the ordeal for the next. Parents are often discouraged about how to navigate their child's behavior and children discouraged about how to feel capable and connected.

Role rigidity, distrust, and lack of belonging can maintain the problems.

How a family organizes each member's unique contribution and plays with each other's strengths determines successfully learning from the presenting challenge.

Unpacking intergenerational patterns is slow and steady work. Parents carry the legacy of their upbringing and it takes work to unravel the string that ties us to old, useless patterns.

Democratically we will rewrite the family's process and practice making mistakes until each discover in themself new ways that strengthen the efforts towards belonging.

Are you and your family willing to be honest in the face of fear, challenge the roles and rules that do not serve you all, and uplift the roles and rules that strengthen?

Family Sculpting

Like statues in a museum, family members can move each other around to help embody the way they feel. Families often get stuck in the language of the conflict; sculpting creates movement to gain greater insight.

Positive Discipline

Punitive strategies of parenting are all too common and only provide short-term solutions. Positive Discipline encourages parents and children to live more in harmony as it promotes cooperation and connection rather than control and punishment.
